1. Is there any movement on the page?  There is a movement.  Mainly due to colors and shapes (The crown to the torch. The torch to the fire in the mirror)

2. Is there any depth on the page? There is a depth but not much.  The only depth that catches my eyes are the stairs and the outside from the window.  This is achieved by the color being lighter than the other areas.

3. Is there contrast between elements and white space?  In this image, I don’t see any strong white space.  If feels like its all elements because everything has either strong color or some type of shapes.

4. Is the eye “dragged” or does it become “stuck” anywhere on the page?  My eyes are getting stuck at with fire in the mirror.  This is because of the mirror being round and has strong color which is red/fire.

5. What is the overall effect of the color scheme?  Very dark and fearful.

6. Is the presentation of the concept plausible?  It has no natural feeling at all. This is because everything looks like it was painted except for faces.

7. Does the structure and format support the concept?  The structure and format does support the concept.  It shows the dungeon in the castle feel by the colors being dark and having stairs in the back ground.

Screen Shot 2014-03-26 at 7.36.52 PM

1. Is there any movement on the page? There is a movement and my eyes are going to the faces, moon, the ball of chain.  Basically the round shapes are creating movement.
2. Is there any depth on the page? The depth is showing in few interesting ways.  First, the street narrows down and disappear in to the horizon.  Another interesting way is that three actors, Jack Black, Will Ferrell, and Jason Segel are ghost.  There for they are see through and shows the back ground details.

3. Is there contrast between elements and white space?  There is a strong contrast between white space which is the sky and elements.  The elements tend to be darker colors or big objects.

4. Is the eye “dragged” or does it become “stuck” anywhere on the page?  My eyes tend to get stuck but at same time, it dragged to different objects too.  My eyes tend to get stuck at the moon since the color contrast is very strong.  However, it dragged around from the moon but at the end, I keep on going back to the moon due to bright contrast.

5. What is the overall effect of the color scheme?  Very dark and abandon.

6. Is the presentation of the concept plausible?  It is plausible in concept of showing three characters as ghosts.  This is because they are see through.  However, if the concept of being realistic, no.  Because it is very easy to tell that it was heavily photoshopped.  There’s no natural feeling to this image.

7. Does the structure and format support the concept?  The structure and format does support the concept.  The ghosts are shown very well by using color concept which is black and white.  The negative ground are colored but in dark color skim to show the night.

Kara Walker is an artist that well known to use shilhouetted figures  to show of race, gender and sexuality. Her work intrigued me because of the uniqueness of how she use simple black or white silhouetted figures by cutting out papers and mix or add very simple colors to create foreground (1~3 colors) by using projectors.  Because she uses these techniques, it creates vector and raster digital images with out using being digital format.   It is very interesting way to show the histories of people but I wish she will expand her art not just focused on race, gender and sexuality do more fictional arts.   I see more possibilities with her type of art style.
